According to the criminal complaint, signed by Minneapolis Police Sgt. John Sullivan, police were called to a home in the 400 block of Oliver Avenue North on June 2 after someone reported a man with a gun.

Officers spoke to two women at the home, one of whom told them that she had argued the night before with Johnson, whom she identified as her boyfriend.

The woman said she left the house after the argument. When she returned later in the day with her sister, the house was “all torn up inside.”

While the two women were standing in the living room, Johnson entered, holding a gun, according to the complaint. He told the two that if they tried to run, he would shoot both of them, the complaint charges.

The two women fled, but Johnson chased them and punched both of them in the face, according to the complaint.

Police apprehended Johnson a short distance from the house. They found no guns on him, but they recovered a .40-caliber round from his pocket, the complaint says.

After Johnson’s arrest, police obtained records of calls he made from the Hennepin County Jail in which he told one of the women to tell police that the incident was a “misunderstanding,” according to the complaint.

Johnson’s criminal record includes convictions for domestic assault in 1996, 1999 and 2006.

Johnson is free on a $30,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in his case is scheduled July 3 in Hennepin County District Court.
