Prosecutors have filed a motion to try Maloney – who turns 18 on Dec. 15 – as an adult.

According to the Eagan Police Department report, the girl was asleep about 2 a.m. Oct. 8 in a home on the 4200 block of Valley Forge Place when she woke up and found someone standing over her. The person was dressed in dark colors and was wearing a ski mask.

When the girl screamed, the suspect put his hands over her mouth and on her neck. The girl scratched her assailant on his neck, telling police that she was trying to inflict a wound that would make him more identifiable to authorities.

The boy, later identified as Maloney, fled after the victim scratched him.

A few hours later, police identified Maloney, who lives nearby. Police said he had scratch marks on his neck and that he confessed to officers that he had broken into the home. The victim knew Maloney, police said.

Eagan police believe Maloney may be responsible for at least four other incidents involving window peeping, burglary and criminal damage to property over the last year. Police said Maloney and his family are cooperating with their investigation.

Police executed a search warrant Monday at Maloney’s home and arrested him.
