Attias and another individual would call grandparents and pose as their relative or an attorney for their relative, according to the Dakota County Attorney's Office news release. They would then convince residents to send them money for bail, car repair, and other reasons.

Attias admitted that he received the money in Florida and then sent that money to a family member in Canada. His sentencing is set for January 2014 in Hastings.

The scams affected residents in Dakota, McLeod, Ramsey, Olmsted and Steele counties, according to the 2012 complaint filed by Hastings Police.
