Officer Sweeney followed the Cadillac as it “abruptly” exited at 24th Avenue off of I-494. After some turns and U-turns, the vehicle ended up at Hampton Inn in Bloomington. He observed the two men exit the vehicle, but could not tell if they had entered the hotel, according to the complaint.

When Bloomington police officers arrived, Sweeney and the other officers checked on the vehicle, which was parked on the north side of the hotel. After insuring that no one was inside the car, officers took positions at the entrances and exits of the hotel. Officers also found “a spent shell casing” during a “ brief plain view search” of the car.

Sgt. Ramthun reports that he arrived at the hotel around this time. He parked on the north side of the hotel in his unmarked vehicle and observed the sidewalk in front of the hotel. Hotel staff told police that men matching the description of the suspects had just left the hotel. Ramthun heard the information through the radio and "immediately" saw the men "at a distance" walking away from the hotel.

After Ramthun told his fellow officers the location of the men, Bloomington officers in the area ordered the men to stop and arrested them.

Bloomington police later led a K-9 search of the hotel and found in the underground garage “a box of 9mm rounds approximately half full and clothing.”

Abdi and Hirsi are in custody at Hennepin County Jail awaiting extradition to Wisconsin.

Two men and a woman were injured in the shooting. The men have been released from the hospital, while the woman, Fartun Ibrahim Aidid, 28, remains in critical condition.
