Charges: Man Leads Eagan Police on Car Chase Through Eagan Neighborhoods

A Northfield man has been charged with fleeing a police officer after police say he led them on a chase through residential neighborhoods in Eagan at speeds that reached 50 mph.

Patrick John Boran, 40, is charged with fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, a felony with a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a $5,000 fine. He is also charged with two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree DWI, each of which has a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

According to the criminal complaint, an Eagan police officer on patrol spotted Boran’s SUV leaving a business parking lot at about 12:30 a.m. Oct. 7. The vehicle sped out of the lot and didn’t stop at a stop sign, the complaint says.

The officer followed Boran and watched as he continued accelerating, putting a “significant” distance between himself and the squad car. The officer turned on his emergency lights and tried to stop Boran’s car, following as Boran sped through residential neighborhoods at 50 mph, according to the complaint.

Boran finally drove onto a front lawn in the 2000 block of Kings Road, stopped and jumped out of the vehicle, fleeing on foot behind the house, according to the complaint. The officer followed and found Boran hiding in the bushes behind a home in the 2000 block of Vienna Lane.

The officer arrested Boran and noted that he smelled of alcohol and that he had bloodshot, watery eyes. As the officer took Boran to the Eagan police station, he became belligerent, swearing at the officer  and not cooperating with police.

Boran’s blood-alcohol content registered .12 percent just before 2 a.m., according to the complaint.

Boran’s criminal record includes four driver’s license revocations for alcohol-related offenses, in 1992, 1996, 1997 and 1999.

Boran has been released from custody pending further court appearances.
