Police Discover Meth Pipe, Burglary Tools During Traffic Stop

A 36-year-old Bloomington man faces several criminal charges following the incident.

Police say possession of marijuana was just the tip of the criminal iceberg for one Bloomington man, who was charged this week with multiple felonies following an Eagan traffic stop in February.

George Edward Shelton, 36, faces one felony count of possession of methamphetamine, one felony count of possession of burglary or theft tools and one petty misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia. If convicted on the possession of methamphetamine charge, Shelton could face a maximum of five years in prison and $10,000 in fines.

Police stopped a vehicle containing Shelton and a female driver after the driver allegedly failed to signal a left-hand turn on Feb. 19.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he allegedly  a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the car. Upon searching the vehicle, the officer found a pill bottle containing marijuana in the driver's purse, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney's office. Police also found a set of what they believe were burglary tools in the car, including bolt cutters, a sledgehammer, two-way walkie-talkies, gloves and a crowbar.

Underneath the driver's seat, the officer also found a glass pope that tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine. Shelton allegedly admitted to the officer that he had relapsed and recently used the pipe to smoke methamphetamine.
