Police: Man Beaten, Robbed at Eagan Bus Stop

James William Hunter was charged with simple robbery and assault for his alleged role in the incident.

A man was forced to take shelter in an Eagan bar after he was beaten and robbed while waiting at an Eagan bus station, according to Eagan police.

James William Hunter, of South Saint Paul, faces one felony count of simple robbery and one misdemeanor count of fifth-degree assault following the robbery, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney's Office. A second suspect, identified by the victim as Davaun Alexander Jones, has yet to be formally charged.

Police were called to a bar on the 1400 block of Yankee Doodle Road at 8:40 p.m. on May 15, after bar employees reported that a man had been robbed outside. Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim, who told investigators that he was waiting at the Yankee Doodle and Federal Drive bus stop when two men assaulted him and stole $155 and a cell phone from his pockets.

In order to escape the beating, the victim said he fled across the street to the parking lot of the bar, according to the complaint.

The victim, who knew and could identify both suspects, said he had been visiting his girlfriend in Eagan earlier that evening. During the visit, the victim got into an altercation with his girlfriend, who called her one of her daughters following the fight, according to police.

After the phone call, the daughter allegedly told Jones and Hunter about the incident—and police say the two men went looking for the victim.

Police weren't initially able to locate either of the suspects, but officers caught up with Hunter during a meeting with his parole officer on May 22. Jones' whereabouts are unknown, according to the complaint.
