An Eagan woman who police say "went ballistic" in the back of a squad car is facing criminal charges after allegedly swearing, kicking and spitting at officers.

Stephanie Marie Carll, 24, is charged with one felony count of fourth-degree assault and one gross misdemeanor count of obstructing the legal process, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Dakota County Attorney's Office. If convicted on the assault charge, Carll could face a maximum of three years in prison and $6,000 in fines.

Police were called to a gas station in Eagan just before 1 a.m. on Jan. 1 on a report of a woman passed out in the back of a taxi cab, according to the complaint. The officers were able to identify the woman as Carll and, after waking her up, asked her if there was a sober individual who could pick her up and take her home, according to the complaint.

Police say Carll was unable to locate a sober driver to pick her up, and when officers informed her that she would be taken to detox, she became uncooperative.

While en route to detox, Carll allegedly became enraged—screaming, banging on the plexi-glass window at the back of the squad car and insulting the officer.

The officer stopped at the Eagan Police Department and requested backup in an effort to restrain Carll, but the woman allegedly began kicking and swinging at police. During the altercation, she also spit a "large amount of mucus" onto one of the officers, according to the complaint.

Police transported her to Dakota County Jail, where police say she continued to scream and yell obscenities until jail officials put her in a restraint chair and placed a spit hood on her.
