Capitol Review: Bill Prohibiting Abortions At/After 20 Weeks Gestational Age

Rep. Doug Wardlow (R-District 38B) co-authored a bill stating that abortions at or after 20 weeks gestational age are prohibited unless exceptions apply, and civil and criminal penalties provided.

Here’s what’s happened this past week with bills authored or co-authored by local legislators:

State Sen. Ted Daley (R-District 38) of Eagan and Burnsville

  • Authored a bill to have the revenue department seek out request for proposals "to implement a system of tax analytics and business intelligence tools to enhance the state's tax collection process and revenues by improving the means of identifying candidates for audit and collection activities and prioritizing those activities to provide the highest returns on auditors' and collection agents' time," according to the Minnesota Senate website. If passed, it would be effective the day following the final enactment. SF0725 was introduced to the senate on March 10.
  • Work continues on these bills, which Daley authored: a bill to modify air carrier employees overtime requirements (SF0488). It passed and had its second reading March 10; a bill that would exempt military retirement income from Minnesota state taxes (SF0041); a bill regarding the reduction in the state workforce "by at least 15 percent by June 30, 2015" and creating an early retirement program (SF0081).
  • In addition, Daley will be holding March 26 from 10 a.m. until noon.

  • co-authored a number of bills, including: a bill stating that abortions at or after 20 weeks gestational age are prohibited unless exceptions apply, and civil and criminal penalties provided (HF0936), according to Minnesota House of Representatives website; a bill "relating to corrections; requiring the commissioner of corrections to issue a request for proposals for housing individuals committed to the custody of the commissioner in private prisons" (HF0939); a bill "relating to veterans; establishing a presumption of rehabilitation through a person's honorable military service following a prior offense" (HF1124).

  • Authored a bill requiring participation in a marriage dissolution education
    program in marriage dissolution or legal separation proceedings involving minor  children, and also proposed coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes (HF1135);
  • Work continues on a bill to appropriate money for emergency services grants
    and transitional housing. HF0846 was introduced March 3, and a new co-author was added March 14.
