City Council Preview: City May Partner with MPCA for Lake Clean-Up

The council is also expected to consider an ordinance amendment prohibiting recreational fires at certain times.

The Eagan City Council will convene at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night at to hold a regular meeting. Here's a preview of a selection of agenda items the council is expected to discuss. For a full agenda, click here.

  • Each spring and fall, the Eagan Police and Fire Departments get plenty of complaints concerning recreational fires in the city. Many of those complaints revolve around the smoke generated by recreational fires held in the late evening, when neighbors may have their windows open and the smoke enters the home, according to a memo prepared for the council. For that reason, the council is expected to vote whether to direct preparation of an ordinance amendment prohibiting fires at certain hours of the day.
  • The council may approve a clean water partnership agreement with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency for a Neighborhood Lakes Management Plan project. In February, the MPCA issued a $167,000 grant to the city to evaluate water quality in eight priority lakes in Eagan. The city's matching cost will include roughly $168,600 in expenses drawn from the Water Quality (Lakes and Wetlands) program.
  • The city has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council to fund arts programming in the community, and the council is expected to vote whether to receive the grant during Tuesday's meeting. The grant request included a focus on artist gatherings.
  • The council is expected to vote whether to approve rezoning and platting for the Eagan Car Club, which plans to build eight buildings on a six-acre site along Hwy. 3 in Eagan. This item was continued from the April 3 council meeting.
