City Looking for Applicants for Open Commission Spots

City officials are looking for 12 interested applicants for positions on advisory commissions, and two applicants for a watershed management board.

Editor's Note: The following is a press release from the city of Eagan.

Ever thought about serving the city you live in? Eagan city officials are looking for applicants for several commissions that advise the Eagan City Council.

There are up to 12 openings on Eagan advisory commissions and two openings on a multi-city watershed management board. Terms are for two years each. Applications are due March 28 for vacancies on the City of Eagan’s Advisory Planning Commission, the Advisory Parks Commission, the Airport Relations Commission, and the Energy and Environment Advisory Commission. If interested, the same application form can be considered for appointment to the Gun Club Lake Watershed Management Organization (WMO).

Bruce Goff, who has served on three Eagan advisory commissions over the last 12 years and is departing as Chair of the Energy and Environment commission, says he likes setting an example for his kids of positive involvement in the community. In addition, Goff says, “I like being part of the process and being connected with the decision makers.” He urges other residents to participate.

The City Council typically makes its WMO and advisory commission appointments in April or May of each year following interviews expected to be the week of April 9.

“The only real requirements are a sincere interest and an open mind about what is best for Eagan,” said City Administrator Tom Hedges.

All applicants must complete a City of Eagan Advisory Commission Application and a Protected Information Form in order to be considered for appointment. Be aware that criminal background checks are conducted on all commission applicants. Both forms can be found on the City’s Web site at www.cityofeagan.com and clicking on the About Eagan tab. Or forms may be picked up at the Eagan Municipal Center, 3830 Pilot Knob Road.

Descriptions of each commission are also available on the Web site. For questions, call Assistant City Administrator Dianne Miller at (651) 675-5014.
