Council Preview: Affordable Housing Vote, Pilot Knob Road Study

Will Eagan may soon be home to another affordable housing complex, if the council votes to approve a site plan and rezoning for a 50-unit townhome facility near Lemay Lake.

The Eagan City Council will convene at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening at City Hall to hold a regular meeting. Here's a preview of a selection of agenda items the council is expected to discuss. For a full agenda, click here.

  • The Eagan City Council may vote to proclaim June 2013 as Eagan Lakes Appreciation Month. The city has more than 350 loakes and ponds greater than one acre in size. However, many of these lakes are affected by pollutants like phosphorus and excess sediments transported through stormwater pipes. Lakes Appreciation Month is designed to raise awareness of water quality in Eagan to to encourage residents and businesses to clean up and protect these water resources.
  • Last year, Dakota County kicked off a study of Pilot Knob Road between Yankee Doodle Road and Central Parkway in Eagan. The study location along Pilot Knob. Although city and county officials are still working on a solution for the Wells Fargo driveway, the Eagan council may vote to accept the other corridor improvement recommendations made as part of that study.
  • Local developer Southview Senior Living wants to build at 4232 Blackhawk Road in Eagan. The company has asked the Eagan council to approve a Comprehensive Guide Plan amendment that would change the land use designation of that site from medium density to high density residential housing—a prerequisite for building at that site. Before the Eagan council can vote whether to approve the request, the proposal must be sent to the Metropolitan Council for review. On Tuesday, the council is expected to vote whether to send Southview Senior Living's request to the Met Council.
  • The Eagan City Council may vote whether to approve rezoning, a site plan and final platting for . The townhome facility, proposed by the Dakota County Community Development Agency, would provide affordable workforce housing for local families under the CDA's Family Townhome Program.
