Dakota County Health Officials Offering Whooping Cough, Flu Vaccinations

The clinics are scheduled throughout the month of December.

Pertussis (“whooping cough”) remains a concern, with more than 260 cases reported in Dakota County this year. Pertussis can affect anyone, but it can be much more serious in infants. Pertussis is spread through the air by coughing.

It is important that people of all ages be up to date on their pertussis vaccinations. Infants should begin the series of 5 DTaP vaccinations at 2 months of age, receiving. Children should have had 5 five doses of DTaP before starting kindergarten. At 10 years of age a child should receive a A Tdap booster. is recommended at 10 years of age. Anyone 10 years or older who has not had a booster is encouraged to get one now. This is also the season for flu vaccinations—the flu vaccine is recommended for anyone 6 months of age and older.

Dakota County Public Health provides reduced-fee immunizations for eligible children and adults. Check our website at www.dakotacounty.us (search “Vaccines”) or call 952-891-7528 for eligibility guidelines and vaccine availability.

Immunizations given at public clinics should not be substituted for routine well-child visits. Minors under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Bring all immunization records with you to the clinic.
