Eagan's 2013 Park Plan Includes New Park, Trail and Playground Upgrades

The 2013 Capital Improvement Plan calls for the preliminary development of a new city park and plenty of upgrades to existing park facilities.

They're all included in Eagan's 2013-2017 Parks and Recreation Capital Improvement Program, which was unanimously approved by the Eagan City Council at a council meeting on Aug. 21.

Each year, Eagan's Advisory Parks Commission reviews the city's parks and recreation infrastructure needs and issues its recommendations as part of the five-year Capital Improvement Program.

Projects in the commission's five-year improvement plan are among the city’s top parks and recreation infrastructure priorities, and the plan is adjusted annually by commission members and given final approval each year by Eagan City Council.

The plan, first presented at a joint workshop between the parks commission and Eagan City Council earlier this month, calls for $475,000 of improvements to park facilities in 2013. Here is a complete list of projects scheduled for 2013 and the cost estimate of each project. Funding for the projects will likely come from the city's Park Systems Development Renewal and Replacement Fund.

  • Central Park Festival Grounds Irrigation$100,000
    The city plans to add to its existing irrigation system to add irrigation to the Festival Grounds portion of Central Park.
  • Central Park Playground Expansion: $25,000
    Expand the current outdoor exercise equipment to provide additional opportunities for physical activities for multiple ages.
  • Cedar Grove Park Development—Phase 1: $175,000
    Begin phase one of the park development surrounding to provide additional recreation opportunities in the area.
  • Northview Park Court Trail Upgrade: $50,000
    Upgrade the existing paved trail around the Tennis Courts.
  • Park Trail Signage: $25,000
    Upgrade the signs that help direct people through the city's trail system.
  • Playground Installation: $70,000
    Continuation of ongoing playground replacement program. Location of replacements yet to be determined.
  • Small Projects City Wide: $30,000
    Funding for opportunities, necessities, grants and partnerships.
