Liquor stores in Eagan can now remain open until 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

“The biggest impact it’ll have is giving those owners and operators that choice on their own,” said Mike Maguire, mayor of Eagan. “They didn’t have the choice before. Now they do.”

Burnsville, Lakeville and Apple Valley all have similar ordinances in place.

The city conducted a survey of 16 Eagan liquor stores in April to gauge interest in the amendment. Nine businesses were in favor of the optional extended weekday closing time. Five businesses opposed the amendment and two businesses didn't respond to the survey

“I’m happy that it passed,” said Rob Chapman, who owns and wrote a letter to the council in support of the amendment. “Monday through Thursday, we regularly are turning people away at 8 o’clock.”
