Eagan City Councilor Cyndee Fields Files for Re-Election

The filing period for local elections begins on Tuesday, May 22 and closes at 5 p.m. on June 5 this year.

Eagan City Council incumbent Cyndee Fields became the first person to formally enter the 2012 council election race on Tuesday.

Fields, who was first elected to the council in 2001, filed for re-election on Tuesday, the first day of the 2012 filing period for local elections. The filing period closes at 5 p.m. on June 5 this year.

Two seats, held by incumbents Fields and Meg Tilley, are up for election during the 2012 election cycle. Councilors serve four-year terms. The deadline to withdraw after filing is 5 p.m. on June 7, and the general election will be held on Nov. 6.

In order to file for a seat on the council, a candidate must be eligible to vote in Minnesota, be at least 21 years of age upon assuming office and maintained residence in the city for at least 30 days prior to the election, among other requirements. Candidates must fill out a filing form provided by the city and pay a $5 filing fee. Copies of the form are available at the Eagan City Clerk's office in .
