Eagan City Officials Looking for a Few Good Firefighters

The city needs volunteer firefighters able to respond to day or night emergency calls.

The Eagan Fire Department wants to bolster its ranks.

Fire officials have put out the call for additional volunteer firefighters able to respond to both day and night calls, participate in fire department-related events and take part in regular training.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or a GED, have a valid driver's license and live within 1.5 miles of an existing fire station in Eagan, among other requirements.

All applicants must pass an interview, physical examination and a police background check. Once accepted, volunteer firefighters must respond to at least 30 percent of all fire calls and 80 percent of all weekly training sessions.

Volunteer firefighters are paid a per-call stipend and can receive benefits upon retirement after 20 years of service.
