Eagan's First Off-Leash Dog Park Opens This Week

City officials will gather on Tuesday evening for a short ceremony to commemorate the opening of the park.

Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire, members of the Eagan City Council and other city officials will gather at Thresher Fields at 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening to mark the opening of the city's first dog park.

The 6.38-acre dog park, located within Thresher Fields Park in northeastern Eagan, features open spaces and lake access for parched pooches looking for a water break. The entire area is fenced in, and the park will include a separate area for smaller dogs.

Development of the park started in earnest in last year, after city staff received several requests from residents for an off-leash dog area.

In January, the city's Advisory Parks Commission for the park: , a 77-acre park in northeast Eagan; , a 93-acre park in west central Eagan; and Rahn Park, a 42-acre site in southwest Eagan. City officials eventually settled on Thresher Fields and .
