Eagan Services Curtailed in Shutdown

Eagan businesses field questions, comments from consumers

Sue Baker, manager of Eagan Auto License, wants people to know they are open.

People still can renew their drivers license and even can transfer titles at this independent license service center located at 3932 Cedar Grove Parkway.

What they can't do is get license tabs for boats, trailers, ATVs, or snowmobiles because these are considered DNR transactions.

Baker said they were swamped on Thursday with people getting their boat and trailer tabs in anticipation of the shutdown.

She said the phones on Friday morning were ringing constantly with people checking to see if Eagan Auto License was open. The answer is yes, they are open regular hours but will have to hold on to the paperwork and won't be able to send it in until after the state is once again open for business.

What that means for consumers is their actual drivers license, or their car title, will not be sent to them until after state workers are back on the job. Baker indicated that car titles already are taking eight to 10 weeks to reach people, so she couldn't begin to imagine how long they will take after the shutdown.

At the Eagan Walmart on Town Centre Drive, nobody was working the desk Friday morning. That's where fishing licenses are normally sold. Instead, a sign was posted informing customers Walmart was unable to issue licenses during the shutdown.

And at the Super America gas station at 1406 Yankee Doodle Road, the store was unable to sell lottery tickets.

A store employee said that the few customers who attempted to purchase tickets Friday morning were not surprised with the news, and that most of the complaints he had been hearing were general comments from customers stating how they felt about the shutdown.
