Eagan Wraps Historic Town Hall for Winter

The Eagan City Council approved the winter protection for the building on Monday.

The Eagan City Council approved the winterization of the historic Town Hall at its meeting on Monday.

The Town Hall was severely damaged in a fire early in September. The Eagan Police and Fire Departments continue to investigate the arson. Police recently asked for the public's help to locate the owner of a bicycle found abandoned near the scene.

Winterizing the building will involve wrapping the building in shrink wrap, the city announced in a news release. The process will cost approximately $2,100.

“There is not really adequate time before the snow falls to make decisions on what all the thoughtful options are for preservation and how to tell Eagan’s story going forward,” Mayor Mike Maguire is quoted in the release. “This buys us some time, preserving our options for preservation and giving us flexibility until this spring."

City staff will talk to the Eagan Historical Society about the group's priorities and goals, as well as their needs for storage. Staff will come back to the council with recommendations in the first quarter of 2014, according to the news release.
