Is the Eagan Stop on Cedar Avenue's Red Line Too Slow?

Riders have complained that the bus ride is too long, says Sun Thisweek.

The Cedar Grove Transit Station in Eagan is part of the Red Line rapid transit route which goes from Apple Valley to the Mall of America. According to Sun Thisweek, riders are saying that the stop is too slow.

Officials from Dakota County, the Metropolitan Council and the Minnesota Department of Transportation are studying ways to shorten the stop. Currently buses must travel from the highway to local streets before reaching the Cedar Grove Transit Station, the newspaper reported.

A couple of the options being discussed come with a price tag that ranges from $18 million to $23 million. In the latter, says Sun Thisweek, "the bus would stop in the center of the highway and riders would walk to and from the station on a skyway."

Eagan officials are also part of the study to recommend a solution to the issue, Jon Hohenstein, Eagan's director of community development, told Patch. The options they are studying basically look at how to get the buses to the station or the people to the buses.

Funding for the project could come from bonding funds, regional transit funds and other sources as determined by Dakota County, said Hohenstein.

Do you think the Eagan stop should change?
