Local Caucuses Coming to Eagan on Tuesday

Attendees will discuss local issues and cast ballots in presidential straw polls as a kick-off to the 2012 election season.

Iowa's caucuses may get all the media attention, but Minnesota residents will have their own chance to participate in local caucuses on Feb. 7.

During the caucus meetings, attendees will cast a presidential preference ballot, elect precinct officers, present ideas for inclusion in the party platform and select delegates for the senate district convention.

Local Democrats from around Senate District 38 will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 at for the party's biennial precinct caucuses. Preference balloting will conclude at 8 p.m. sharp, according to a press release issued by the Senate District 38 DFL Party. Ballots may only be cast in person; no absentee balloting is allowed. Attendees can gather early at 6:15 p.m. for a
victory rally in the high school cafeteria. Anyone who will be eligible to vote in Minnesota by November 6, 2012 may vote in the preference ballot at the DFL caucuses.

The Senate District 38 Republicans group plans to gather at two locations at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 for local caucuses. Attendees from Burnsville's sixth, ninth and 10th precinct and Eagan precincts two through 16 will meet at . Eagan precincts 17 through 21 will meet at in Eagan.

Participants at both GOP sites can cast a vote in a straw poll, discuss candidates, issues and resolutions, elect precinct leadership and elect delegates to the Senate District Convention following redistricting.
