More Eagan Roads Targeted for Repairs

Slater Road is among a number of local streets that will likely be resurfaced next year.

During its regular meeting at earlier this week, the Eagan City Council held public hearings for and approved three separate road reconstruction projects—all of which are expected to begin next spring or summer.

Next year, the city is slated for 17 road projects affecting 21 total miles of streets in Eagan, according to Eagan Public Works Director Thomas Colbert. The projects and assessments to individual property owners will affect a total of 1,400 throughout properties in Eagan, Colbert added, and will total more than $6 million. The city will pay for roughly $4.2 million of the cost, with the remaining amount coming from assessments.

Below is a list of the anticipated projects approved during public hearings on Tuesday night. Next spring, the city is expected to award contracts for the construction projects.

  • Slater Road/Whispering Woods
Nearly a mile of Slater Road in the Whispering Woods neighborhood is scheduled for a mill and overlay project next year. City officials are planning to repair the curb and gutter, address storm sewer and utilities issues and replace sidewalk ramps at intersections, in addition to resurfacing the road. The project will affect 76 residential properties and will cost a total of $221,000, according to City Engineer Russ Matthys. Of that amount, the city will assess local property owners for $67,500.
  • Sibley Court/S&W Industrial
Sibley Court is also slated for resurfacing next year, after the Eagan City Council gave the project a green light during the council meeting this week. City crews also plan to repair driveway aprons, the curb and gutter and storm sewer infrastructure as part of the project. Only three properties—all commercial or industrial—are affected by the project, which will cost nearly $60,000. All of the projected cost will be assessed to the property owners.
  • Tesseract Place
The last project approved by the council on Tuesday was a small mill and overlay of Tesseract Place, located at the northeast corner of Hwy. 13 and Hwy. 77. Only two properties are impacted by this project, and both and commercial or industrial. City crews plan to repair the curb and gutter and improve signage as part of the $33,500 project.
