VIDEO: After Parkview Decision, It's Time to Heal, Mayor Says

Mayor Mike Maguire spoke with Patch regarding the council's decision to approve the Parkview redevelopment, moving forward and his own personal stake as a resident living near the golf course.

Voting in favor of the redevelopment of Parkview Golf Course was a particularly difficult—and personal—decision, Eagan Mayor Mike Maguire told Eagan Patch on Thursday.

Maguire, a longtime resident of one of the neighborhoods near the golf course, spoke with Patch to offer his own perspective on the decision, and to respond to criticism leveled by opponents of the council's decision.

On Tuesday, the council voted 4-1 to approve a land use amendment, rezoning, subdivision, site plan and environmental review for the 80-acre golf course site. The vote paved the way for developer Hunter Emerson to purchase the site and build a proposed, 170-unit housing development on the beloved 18-hole course.

Now that the decision is made, Maguire hopes the community can begin healing.

"My hope is that with this vote and with the resolution of this, the passion and emotion of the community, and in particular the neighborhood, can start to dissipate, and folks can get back to finding some better closure on Parkview Golf Course, and move onto the healing," Maguire said.
