Photos: EHS Students Captivate Audience with 'Cyrano de Bergerac' Play

Eagan High School's colorful, funny, sad and stirring production of Cyrano de Bergerac will run for one final performance tonight

Eagan High School teacher and director Nancy Owzarek said she has been waiting 25 years to put on a production of Cyrano de Bergerac.

"I fell in love with this play in college and have waited 25 years for the right synthesis of student talent to bolster me with enough courage to tackle this great piece of dramatic literature," Owzarek said in notes on the production. "I hope you'll agree with me that it was worth the wait to work with this amazing group of students."

Will Cox as Cyrano de Bergerac leads the talented cast. The play also stars Elleni Paulson as Roxane, Cyrano's wealthy and beautiful cousin, and Brennan Spicer as Christian de Neuvillette, a handsome new recruit to the cadets.

The story revolves around Cyrano, a soldier and poet with a talent for words and swordplay and the owner of a very large nose. Cyrano is in love with his cousin Roxane, a wealthy and beautiful woman who comes to fall in love with Christian, a young soldier and protege of Cyrano. Roxane, however, will discover that while she has fallen in love with Christian's image, it is the poetry of Cyrano's words which have truly captured her heart.

"It allows me to have a lot of fun, not only doing funny things and very kind of flamboyant big things but also, there's an opportunity for real emotion, especially toward the end of the play," said Cox.

"I really like all of act three, the series of scenes right before intermission," said Paulson. "That's kind of where everything falls together, or falls apart, depending on how you want to look at it. It's really funny, it's really fun. There's a lot of comedic timing that I have never done before in a play. It's cool to do that."

The final performance of Cyrano de Bergerac will run tonight at Eagan High School Auditorium, starting at 7:30 p.m. and plenty of tickets are available.

"My favorite part of the play has got to be working with all these delightful people," said Spicer. "We have a fantastic cast and I feel honored to be a part of it."
