Deerwood Elementary Selected for $100,000 Grant

The school is one of 50 schools in the nation to receive grant from Target, school officials announced today.

in Eagan was one of 50 schools across the country selected to receive a $100,000 grant from Target Corporation, school officials announced on Wednesday.

The school plans to convene a series of meetings with staff, Site Council and Booster Club members over the next few weeks to determine how to use the money, according to a letter from Deerwood Principal Miles Haugen.

Last November, Haugen wrote, The Ellen DeGeneres Show announced that Target planned to give out $100,000 grants to 50 schools in the United States. Viewers of the show were invited to submit the name of a school along with a compelling story explaining why the school should receive one of these grants from Target.

At least one Deerwood parent, Lindy Pfaltzgraff, nominated the elementary school for the grant, Haugen said. Deerwood is the only school in Minnesota that was selected to receive the grant.

"We are extremely grateful to Lindy for taking the time to write a heartfelt nomination that will end up benefiting all students here at Deerwood," Haugen wrote. "We are also extremely thankful for the continued generosity of the Target Corporation and its commitment to education.
