UPDATE: Eagan Tracksters Show Guts At State Meet

Updated and comprehensive coverage of Eagan's performances at the 2011 State Class AA Track & Field meet.

Editor's Note: Eagan Patch erroneously reported that Emerald Egwim and Adam Peters were the only Wildcats participating in the Minnesota Class AA State Track & Field meet on June 10-11. In fact, five Eagan athletes took part in the meet. Eagan Patch sincerely apologizes for omitting these athletes and congratulates them on their performances against what looked to be a very talented field of athletes. See below for the updated story.

Eagan's sophomore speedster Danielle Anderson broke her own school record in the girls' 3200-meter run at the 2011 Class AA State Track & Field meet at Hamline University on Saturday.

Anderson's 11:12.18 placed her seventh overall amidst a field that included the best long-distance runners in Minnesota. Alexandria's Jamie Piepenberg won the state title with a time of 10:42.46.

Eagan's freshman runner Emerald Egwim ran the 200-meter dash in 26.19 in a preliminary heat on Friday. Egwim failed to qualify for the finals of the 200-meter race by 0.12 seconds.

Park Center senior, Sashanavian Davis, won the state title in the event on Saturday after recording a time of 24.73.

In the boys' events, Eagan junior Adam Peters placed seventh overall in the pole vault after clearing 13 feet, 6 inches. Sophomore Lee Bares of Lakeville South won the state title after recording a jump of 15 feet.

Eagan senior Derrick Mora cleared 21 feet 0.75 inches in the boys' long jump, which was good enough for 14 overall in the event. Benilde St. Margaret senior Trevor Yedoni cleared 23 feet to win the state title.

Mora also placed 12th overall in the boys' 300-meter hurdles with a preliminary time of 40:31. He did not qualify for the finals of the event, which was won by Park-Cottage Grove junior—and 2010 state champion—RJ Alowonle with a time of 37.93 seconds.

As a team the Wildcats finished 55 out of 60 in the boys' state meet while the girls finished 55 out of 64.

The boys from Stillwater Area High School won the team track title with a total of 47 points from 18 events. The girls from crushed their competition, totalling 84 points from 18 events.
