The high school will be offering a chance for students and Eagan community members to get involved in volunteering

’s National Honor Society (NHS) is hosting its first annual
Volunteer Fair to allow nonprofit organizations a chance to recruit volunteers and to present student and community members opportunities to volunteer.

The event will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the high school near the theater. Free Dunn Brothers coffee and Jimmy John sandwiches will be available for those who attend, and NHS is estimating 250-350 attendees.

"There will [also] be a drawing for door prizes, including gift certificates to Cub Foods, Little Caesar’s, Umbria Pizza and Green Mill, free movies or games at Video Update, Buffalo Wild Wings Sauce, and coupons to Panda Express and Davanni’s," NHS Officer Laura Plumb said.

There will be 18 nonprofits attending, including the Arc Greater Twin Cities, Caponi Art Park, , Dakota Center for the Arts, and DARTS.  Each nonprofit will have a table and "everyone is encouraged to walk around and talk to organizations that interest them," Plumb said.

"These [nonprofit] organizations are looking for local community members to volunteer for a wide variety of opportunities. No organizations will be asking for money," Plumb said. "One of our goals is to connect people with an opportunity that motivates and excites them."

"We're also hoping to get some of the younger members of our school engaged in volunteering as a lifelong habit, instead of suddenly starting when they begin applying to college or after they join NHS," Plumb said.
