In all, 15 students from District 196 were named semifinalists.

Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan schools were well-represented in this year's National Merit Scholarship Program, a nationwide academic competition.

The PSAT is the qualifying test, which serves as an initial screen of about 1.5 million competitors. Fifteen District 196 seniors were named 2014 National Merit semifinalists, with another 29 recognized as National Merit commended.

Eagan High did particularly well, with five semifinalists: Nurullah Goren, Emily Quick, Alexandra Rosati, Laurel Scott and Matthew Tran.
