Garlough Environmental Magnet Named as a ‘Celebration School’

The honor recognizes schools that have seen success with student achievement.

The Minnesota Department of Education has named Garlough Environmental Magnet as a “Celebration School,” the agency announced Monday.

The celebration school designation is part of the Minnesota school accountability system that replaced No Child Left Behind. Each year, schools receive a “Multiple Measurement Rating.” The top 25 percent of Title I schools directly below the schools designated as “Reward Schools,” or the top 15 percent of Title I schools, are designated as “Celebration eligible.”

The Celebration-eligible schools then apply for Celebration status by documenting how they are increasing student achievement. The Minnesota Department of Education then picks schools that effectively documented best practices that led to student success.

This year, 166 schools were eligible and applied for Celebration status and 48 schools were chosen.

“I want to congratulate these schools for this incredible accomplishment,” a news release quoted Education Commissioner Brenda Cassellius. “Minnesotans should be proud of the work going on in our schools. I look forward to continue learning about their successful efforts to ensure all students succeed and share that work with other schools across the state.”
