Surprise: Two Burnsville-Eagan-Savage Teachers Get OfficeMax Donations

A new chair and a bunch of classroom goodies: it's the haul two Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District teachers were surprised with on Tuesday.

Mitzi Tetzloff, a special education teacher at Metcalf Junior High in Burnsville and Ann Marie Gambucci, a first grade teacher at Rahn School of Arts & Technology in Eagan, were among 1,000 teachers across the nation selected to receive classrooms supplies such as digital cameras, markers, paper, a swivel chair, and more, from OfficeMax as part of the company's “A Day Made Better” event.

Their schools also received nice surprises. At Rahn, OfficeMax donated $1,200 in supplies for the Student Council store to sell and another $2,500 in office supply donations made by customers at OfficeMax stores. At Metcalf, the school received more than $1,600 in supplies, as well.

"Your donations speak volumes on how you value teachers and education," said Elaine Mehdizadeh, principal at Rahn. "Your generosity is much appreciated."

Bob Thacker, founder of “A Day Made Better," was a guest at Rahn for the give away today. He said the event was started because teachers spend an estimated $1,000 out-of-pocket annually on essential classroom supplies. 

Since the event began in October 2007, OfficeMax has funded more than 6,000 teachers and their classrooms and helped attract donations for another 10,000 classrooms through Adopt-A-Classroom. Learn more at adaymadebetter.com or adopt a teacher at adoptaclassroom.org.
