Two Eagan High School Students Earn Triple 'A' Award

Sonja Hedblom and Jacob Guzior, both seniors, have been selected to represent Eagan High School in Region 3AA as Triple “A” Winners.

Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award (Triple "A" Award) is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The award goes to high school seniors who have a “B” or better grade point average and participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.

Sonja Hedblom is an athlete participating in two sports at Eagan High School.  Sonja is a four-year letter winner in swimming and served as the team captain this past fall. She was also all-conference honorable mention two years and been a state qualifier three years.

Sonja is a five- year letter winner in Nordic Ski. She is a three-year captain and has earned All-Conference honors every year of participation. She is also a two-year All-State winner. Sonja was the 3AA section champion in pursuit in 2011 and 2012. She has been the team’s MVP three years and has been a qualifier for four years in the Minnesota State High School League State Nordic Tournament.  She is a an active participant in Eagan’s band program, including Marching Band, Concert Band and Pep Band. Sonja has been on the A Honor Roll each trimester of high school. She is in the National Honor Society, is a Peer Tutor, a member of the Link Crew and has gone on Eagan’s Summer Science Institute to the BWCA. She was also Eagan High School’s MSHSL ExCEL winner as a junior. Sonja is undecided on her college choice, but plans on getting her degree in engineering and being on her college Nordic Ski team.  Sonja is the daughter of Thomas and Annette Hedblom of Eagan.

Jacob Guzior is a four-year member of the Eagan Speech Team. His teammates voted him as a captain this year. He has earned MSHSL State Tournament bids two years in a row in Humorous Interpretation. He was a state finalist in both of those years. He also earned a bid to nationals where he took second place in the nation. Jacob has been an active participant in our theater program as well. Jacob has also been in the One Act Play at Eagan for three years where the play earned a Star Award in the Minnesota State High School League Tournament.

Jacob is a three- year letter winner in Cross Country at Eagan High School. He served as captain this year. Jacob is also a member of Eagan’s Link Crew and a member of National Honor Society.

Jacob is still deciding where he will attend college. He will be a pre-med student with a focus on biochemistry. He plans on continuing running and doing theater productions while in college. Jacob is the son of Elizabeth Guzior of Eagan and Jerzy Guzior of Apple Valley.

Triple "A" Award recipients are selected by a multi-level process involving the League's member schools and administrative regions. League officials will announce the four award recipients (a girl and a boy from both a Class "A" and Class "AA" school) at an on-court recognition ceremony held in March.
