When do District 196 Students Make Up Missed School Days?

The revised calendar includes the addition of two days.

Students who attend Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan Schools, and many other school districts in the state, have missed five days of classes due to the cold weather.

District 196 has now announced when students will make up a couple of those days.

The schedule of added school days is different for high school students and middle school and elementary students.

High School Revised Calendar

  • Students will now attend school on Friday, Feb. 14, which was previously a scheduled day off.
  • Friday, Mar. 14 is no longer a staff development day. All students will attend school.
  • Bottom Line: Added days are Feb. 14 and Mar. 14.

Middle School and Elementary Revised Calendar
  • Students will no longer have Thursday, Feb. 13 as a day off. They will attend school on Thursday, but continue to have Friday, Feb. 14 as a day off.
  • Friday, Mar. 14 is no longer a staff development day. All students will attend school.
  • Bottom Line: Added days are Feb. 13 and Mar. 14.

Middle school and elementary students also have a revised conferences schedule in February. Conferences will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Feb. 12 and 13 and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Feb. 14.

"We believe adding these two days for students is important given the unusual amount of instructional time that has been lost due to the weather cancelations," said Superintendent Jane Berenz in a district news release. "Having these additional days earlier in the calendar will provide for a better teaching and learning environment than adding them to the end of the school year."

The school board approved the added school dates at its Jan. 27 meeting.
