Another Double-Digit Output for EHS Boys Hockey

11 Wildcats have multi-point games in 11-3 win over Rosemount.

Eagan might want to think about saving some of its goals.

The Wildcats reached double digits for the second straight game, beating Rosemount 11-3 Thursday.

Michael Zajac had a hat trick and two assists for Eagan, which beat Bloomington Kennedy 12-1 last Saturday and is unbeaten in eight straight games. Brady Loew, Cody Mason and Sam Wolfe each had a goal and two assists. Will Merchant, the team’s leading goal scorer, was held to three assists, and 11 skaters had at least two points.

With playoff action scheduled to begin next Thursday, coach Mike Taylor said he wanted to see his ninth-ranked Wildcats play smart and with authority from the opening faceoff to the final horn.

After giving up the first goal on an early power play, Eagan (17-5-2, 12-3-2 South Suburban Conference) scored the next nine goals to take control. Five of the goals came within a span of 2 minutes, 18 seconds in the second period.

Already up 4-1, Eli May scored a power-play goal on a rebound at 10:26, Ryan Nelson scored on a second effort at 11:18 and Eric Peterson converted a textbook 2-on-1 with Loew 13 seconds later.

That wasn’t the team’s fastest two goals.

Zajac scored on a rebound at 12:35 and Cullen Willox scored on a wristshot nine seconds later.

Loew tipped home a pass from John Carroll before the period ended.

Wolfe scored in the third period.

Rosemount (6-18, 3-14) got a pair of goals from Mike Cossalter. The Irish were outshot 58-12.

Eagan finishes the regular season Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. home game against Bloomington Jefferson on Senior Night. The Jaguars trail the Wildcats by one point in the conference standings.
