As the fall sports season gets underway, these athletes are primed to lead their teams to victory. Check back each morning on Eagan Patch as we go sport-by-sport, profiling the top athletes on each team.

Name: Marissa Ganske
Grade: Senior
Sport: Girls Soccer
Strengths: Sometimes, the best offense is a good defense. At least that's certainly true when it comes to Eagan High School Girls Soccer Team Captain Marissa Ganske, who has the ability to "jump start" the offense with her ball handling and passing skills, Coach Mark Obarski said.

This will be Ganske's third year playing varsity, and last year she was named an All-Conference player for the Wildcats. While Obarski tried her out in several different roles on the team in the 2011-2012 season, this year he expects her to be the center of a stalwart defensive line.

“I know we need her back there," Obarski said. "She’s that holding force in the back that will keep us together."

Name: Kaleigh Solheim
Grade: Senior
Sport: Girls Soccer
Strengths: Speed and strong passing skills are outside midfielder Kaleigh Solheim's fortes, according to Eagan High School Girs Soccer Coach Mark Obarski. Although Obarski expects Solheim to notch a few goals this season, she is also a key behind-the-scenes player, able to set up goal-scoring opportunities with her passing and quick movement on the outside of the field.

The competition will be stiff this year, but Obarski hopes Solheim earns All-Conference honors this year.

“I think we’re looking for both of them to really be our leaders on and off the field," Obarski said of Granske and Solheim. "As they go, we’ll go."
