As the fall sports season gets underway, these athletes are primed to lead their teams to victory. Check back each morning on Eagan Patch as we go sport-by-sport, profiling the top athletes on each team.

Name: Nicole Stevens
Grade: Senior
Sport: Girls Swimming
Strengths: Stevens, who has participated on the Eagan High School swim team since 8th grade, and has competed at the state swimming meet each year since 9th grade, is a dependable powerhouse for the Wildcats. Stevens' forte is the 100 breast stroke. EHS Girls Swimming Coach Steve VanDyne hopes she can shave at least one more second off her benchmark time of 1:05. But he also believes Stevens, a senior captain, can qualify for state in another event this year.

VanDyne described Stevens as quiet leader who inspires others with her actions.

"She’s just a great overall person to have on the team," VanDyne said. "I’ve definitely enjoyed watching the ride so far with her."

Name: Sammy Jagler
Grade: Junior
Sport: Girls Swimming
Strengths: Jagler participated in the 200 medley relay at state last year, and placed in the top eight swimmers at sections. EHS Girls Swimming Coach Steve VanDyne hopes her past accomplishments can serve as a foundation for future success this year.

"She's progressively getting better each season, her work ethic is bar none and she doesn’t want to miss a single yard," VanDyne said.

VanDyne believes Jagler can drop several seconds off her 1:01 performance in the 100 butterfly last year and progress in the 200 IM. If she's successful, VanDyne believes she can place in the upper echelon at the 2012 state meet.
