2011 Panjshir Tour - Minneapolis

On October 8, 2011 riders across the U.S. will again use their bikes as vehicles for social change. By participating in the Panjshir Tour, cyclists will help raise funds to fuel Mountain2Mountain's programs in Afghanistan through sweat equity and muscles.

I'm pleased and proud to say that Minneapolis is the latest city on board the Tour and we'd love to have you join us in riding your bikes to benefit social change and justice in Afghanistan!

In October 2010, M2M founder, Shannon Galpin, rode across Afghanistan’s Panjshir Valley, on a two-day journey of more than 150 km. In a country where women are not allowed to ride bikes, Shannon’s groundbreaking ride tested the perception of removing this social barrier to empower women in her rural midwife training program with a way to get to their patients faster. A difference of 15 minutes could save the life of a woman in labor.

Rides will also take place in Washington, D.C.; New York City; Los Angeles; Denver; Portland, Oregon; Santa Rosa, California; and Saratoga Springs, New York to raise money through the power of the pedal to support 2M projects in Afghanistan.

All entry fees go directly to M2M and each entrant will receive a sock card on the day of the Tour (October 8th) for a free pair of socks (of their choosing) from LIN socks and plenty of GU for the ride from GU!

Following the ride, there will be a prize drawing for awesome swag donated by our sponsors at Timbuk2, Bolle, Darn Tough Vermont socks, Osprey, Vasque, Overland Equipment, LIN socks, Polar Bottle and lots more.

The inequities that women and girls face in Afghanistan are not a women’s issue. It’s not an Afghanistan issue. It’s a human rights issue. And human rights issues deserve our attention and support.
