Both Eagan soccer teams open their Section 3AA Tournament brackets at home on Tuesday night, with the No. 2 Wildcats boys playing No. 7 Rosemount at 5 p.m. and the No. 1 girls taking on No. 8 St. Paul Highland Park at 7 p.m.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
AJ Albers led the fifth-ranked Wildcat boys in regular-season scoring with 13 goals, while Max Turnstedt’s 11 assists were tops on the club in pre-playoff contests. Goalkeeper Austin Stoesz logged eight shutouts in 16 games.
Marissa Ganske’s eight goals paced the third-ranked Wildcat girls into the post-season, as did Angela Lacroix’s nine assists. Goalie Kristen Knutson saved 73 of 79 shots faced in the regular season, posting 11 shutouts in 16 games.
WHO WILL WIN:
Both Eagan sides should cruise to victories. The Highland Park girls posted a 10-5 overall record, but lost 5-0 to the only ranked team they faced (Class A’s Visitation). Knutson is a good bet to post shutout No. 12.
The Rosemount boys put just five shots on the Wildcats net in a 3-0 loss to Eagan last week to close out the regular season. Stoesz could earn another clean sheet on Tuesday.
Barring any upsets, both Eagan squads will be home again on Thursday for the sectional semifinals.
