Sports Roundup: Boys Nordic Skiing Sends Seven to State

Eagan High School's Nordic Skiing teams had strong performances at the section meet in Wisconsin.

Boys Basketball: Eagan came away with a pair of wins after last week's games against Burnsville and Lakeville North. The boys basketball team won 64-45, with Shea Mandli scoring 16 points and Nick Sabatke tallying 15 points. Sabatke has scored 351 points this season—an average of 16.7 points per game. Mandli is not far behind, with 329 points this season. Eagan took down Lakeville North 49-39.

Girls Basketball: The girls basketball team lost two back-to-back games against Burnsville and Lakeville North last week. The Wildcats were beating Burnsville by one point at halftime last Friday, but were outscored in the second half. The final score was 52-56. Eagan had a well-rounded offense against Lakeville North, with a handful of players contributing plenty of points, but it wasn't enough to pull out a victory. The Wildcats lost 48-39 on Tuesday.

Boys Hockey: The Wildcats outshot Eastview High School 31-18 in a 7-1 victory over their opponents on Saturday, Feb. 4. Eric Peterson scored a pair of goals during the game, and Sam Wolfe contributed with four assists. Will Peterson got the boys hockey team off to a good start against Bloomington Jefferson last Saturday, scoring early in the first period, but the Wildcats ended with a 6-6 tie after Bloomington scored five goals in the third period.

Girls Hockey: The East Ridge High School goalie may have gotten 31 saves last Wednesday, but the girls hockey team had the last laugh, beating East Ridge 5-1. Eagan scored four goals in the second half. Megan Wolfe, Shelby Williams, Alyssa Markstrom and Sarah Jackson all contributed points to Eagan's cause. On Saturday, the girls beat out Hastings in a 4-3 game. Tonight, they square off against Apple Valley.

Boys Nordic Skiing: Eagan High School's boys Nordic Skiing team qualified for state for the second straight year, after a strong performance at the Section 1 meet. Heading to state for Eagan are: Nick Acton (3rd place at sections), Josh Podpeskar (6th), Jacob Edmond (11th), Ryan Larson (12th), Jacob Carlson (43rd), Chris Acton (45th) and Patrick Acton (51st).

Girls Nordic Skiing: The Eagan Girls Nordic Ski team came in seventh place overall at sections, with Sonja Hedblom taking first place and Roxy Holt finishing 12th. Both qualified for state. Also racing for Eagan was Laura Bailly (14th).
