Sports Roundup: Boys Hockey Stomps Prior Lake

Each Tuesday, Eagan Patch will post a recap of last week's Eagan High School sporting events.

Boys Basketball
The boys basketball team started the week with an 84-68 loss to Apple Valley on Tuesday. Eagan trailed 51-32 at the end of the first half, but was able to regain some momentum in the second half. The team was led by Shea Mandli, who scored 23 points throughout the game. The Wildcats followed up on Friday with a handy 76-49 win over Rosemount, before losing again on Saturday against Owatonna. The boys are 7-7 on the season.

Girls Basketball
The girls basketball team won a pair of close victories last week, after losing 67-45 to Apple Valley on Tuesday. On Friday, the Wildcats beat out Rosemount, and senior . Then, on Saturday, the girls struck again—defeating Owatonna in a 74-71 victory. Lindsey Gonsior and Sammie Delzotto were instrumental in that game, scoring 21 and 17 points, respectively.

Boys Hockey
The boys were bolstered by back-to-back wins last week. On Thursday, the Wildcats pummeled Prior Lake in an 8-2 victory. Will Merchant notched two goals against Prior Lake, while Nick Kuchera picked up four assists in the game. The boys hockey team's Saturday match against Lakeville south was a pitched battle, with Eagan coming out ahead 5-4. The Wildcats had two power play goals, one in the first period by Zach Glienke and the second in the third period by Derick Kuchera.

Girls Hockey
Despite goals by Megan Wolfe and Megan Juricko, the girls hockey team tied Prior Lake 2-2 after a scoreless overtime period last Tuesday. The Wildcats outshot their foes 45-13 in regular time, but couldn't find many holes in in Prior Lake keeper Lexi Brandt's defense. Brandt came away with 52 saves. The girls hockey team went on to pick up a 3-1 win on Saturday against Lakeville South and former Eagan coach Natalie Darwitz. Click here for Patch's profile of the team.
