Sports Roundup: Fall Season Begins For Wildcats

Several Eagan teams begin 2011 campaigns, with more to start up this week.

A trio of teams from Eagan High School began their fall sports seasons last week, with several more set to start this week.

Girls Soccer

It couldn't get much better for the Eagan girls soccer team last week as the Wildcats opened their 2011 campaign with back-to-back shutout victories at home.

Eagan blew out Rochester Mayo by a 6-0 score last Thursday, then followed up with another blanking, 3-0, of Owatonna.

Goalkeeper Kristen Knutson saw time in both games, making three saves, with fellow senior Erica Cimochowski also getting in a save in her time in net.

Marissa Ganske, Kaleigh Solheim, Katie Hasslinger and Ellie Schroer all scored two goals apiece through the victories, with Roselyn Anderson adding tally and Angela Lacroix logging a team-high two assists.

The Wildcats host Woodbury at 5 p.m. Tuesday, before heading to Duluth East on Thursday.

Boys Soccer

Eagan's Juan Sjoberg recorded a second-half goal to ensure a 1-1 tie against visiting Northfield last Thursday in the season opener.

The Wildcats host Park of Cottage Grove at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with Blaine visiting Eagan at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Girls Tennis

The Eagan girls tennis team split its first pair of matches, losing 6-1 to Wayzata last Wednesday before shutting out Lakeville South by a 7-0 score in the South Suburban Conference opener last Thursday.

The Wildcats play at Prior Lake at 3 p.m. Tuesday and host Rosemount at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
