Sports Roundup: Wildcats Roar Into Sectional Soccer Finals

Eagan boys, girls win home finales in playoff semifinals on Thursday, play Eastview for State berths next Tuesday.

The Eagan boys and girls soccer teams both cruised into their respective Section 3AA Tournament finals with semifinal victories on Thursday, as each will now play Eastview next week for a berth in the Class AA State Tournament.

Girls Soccer

Goalkeeper Kristen Knutson claimed her 13th shutout of the season, with Kayleigh Solheim and Marissa Ganske netting one goal apiece as the top-seeded Eagan girls soccer team blanked No. 4 Rosemount, 2-0, at home.

The victory advances the Wildcats, ranked third in Class AA, to the sectional championship game against the No. 2 seeded and eighth-ranked Lightning at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Park High School in Cottage Grove.

Eagan defeated Eastview, 1-0, in South Suburban Conference play on Sept. 15.

Boys Soccer

A 4-1 defeat of sixth-seeded Park at home in the semifinals means that the No. 2 seed and No. 5 ranked Eagan boys soccer team will play the top-seeded and ranked Lightning in Cottage Grove for a trip to State.

AJ Albers scored twice to lead the Wildcats to victory, with goalkeeper Austin Stoesz making 13 saves to ensure the triumph.

The two teams will do battle at Park at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Eagan lost 1-0 to Eastview on Sept. 15.
