Sports Roundup: Wildcats Soccer Sweeps Rosemount To Cap Regular Season

Girls finish second, boys third in South Suburban Conference races, now look towards sectional playoffs.

Successful regular seasons now in the bag, the Eagan boys and girls soccer teams now both turn their attention towards the post-season and the Section 3AA Tournament to come.

Girls Soccer

Behind two goals form Kayleigh Solheim and five saves from goalkeeper Kristen Knutson, the third-ranked Eagan girls soccer team concluded its regular season with a 4-1 defeat of visiting Rosemount on Thursday.

Roselyn Anderson and Jessica Hart also scored for the Wildcats, who improved to 13-2-1 overall and 6-2-1 in the South Suburban Conference as the post-season beckoned.

Eagan finished behind only No. 1-ranked Lakeville North in the South Suburban and with the Panthers playing in Section 1AA, the Wildcats will likely earn the No. 1 seed for the 3AA tourney, scheduled to be held Oct. 11-18.

Boys Soccer

The Eagan boys soccer team closed out a third-place finish of 5-3-1 in the South Suburban as the Wildcats improved to 11-3-2 overall with a 3-0 shutout of Rosemount at home on Thursday.

With goalkeeper Austin Stoesz making five saves for his eighth shutout of the season, Juan Solberg, Peter Basch and Jake Punch scored for the Wildcats in the victory.

Eighth-ranked Eagan is likely to claim the No. 1 seed for the Section 3AA tournament, slated to be played in three rounds Oct. 11-18.

Girls Tennis

The Eagan girls tennis team, seeded second in the Section 3AA Tournament, followed up a 7-0 defeat of No. 15 Bloomington Kennedy in Tuesday's opening round with a 6-1 besting of No. 7 South St. Paul on Thursday.

Individual statistics were not made available. The Wildcats play No. 3 Rosemount in the sectional semifinals on Oct. 11 at Lifetime Fitness in Lakeville.

Girls Swimming and Diving

Lakeville South defeated Eagan, 96-89, in a South Suburban girls swimming and diving dual meet on Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Volleyball

The fourth-ranked Eagan volleyball team won its fifth-straight match, improving to 16-3 overall and a South Suburban-best 7-0 with a three-game shutout (25-12, 25-17, 25-15) of Rosemount at home on Thursday. 

Individual statistics were not made available. The Wildcats play at conference rival Prior Lake on Oct. 11 in its lone match of next week.
