Sports Roundup: Zeleninias, Donahue Heading To State Tennis Tournament

WIldcats netters wrap sectional play; Anderson wins conference girls cross-country title.

Eagan will be sending three girls tennis players to the state tournament after claiming runner-up finishes in both singles and doubles competition in the sectional individual tournament on Tuesday, while Danielle Anderson made her intentions known to qualify for State with an individual conference cross-country championship last Friday.

Girls Tennis

The duo of Elizaveta and Varvara Zeleninia will join Danielle Donahue at the State Class AA Girls Tennis Tournament on Oct. 25 after the trio earned second-place finishes in the doubles and singles brackets of the Section 4AA Tournament.

The Zeleninias topped Chloe Hall/Savanna Crowell from Prior Lake in the semifinals to clinch a State berth before falling to Meredith Lawrence/Morgan Morrison of Visitation in the title round.

Donahue earned her State trip with a semifinal defeat of Holy Angels' Rachel Schneider before losing to Rosemount's Virginia Norder in the championship.

Cross-Country

Danielle Anderson completed the 4,000-meter course at Eagan High School in 14 minutes, 30.3 seconds to win the individual girls title at the South Suburban Conference championship meet as the Wildcats finished second as a team.

Led by Sidney Speir's third-place run of 16:21.8 over 5,000 meters, the Eagan boys finished eighth.

Girls Swimming and Diving

The Eagan girls swimming and diving team defeated Apple Valley, 113-71, in a South Suburban dual meet on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not made available.
