Weekend Recap for Eagan Teams

The boys' basketball and hockey teams were dealt tough losses while the Lady Wildcats hockey team pulled out a tie.

Boys’ Basketball

St. Louis Park’s Kashif Hayes scored 28 points to help down host 64-55 in the season opener for both teams. Eagan led 34-27 at the half but St. Louis Park took the second half 37-21 to hand the Wildcats the loss.

Shea Mandli led the Wildcats with 19 points while Nick Sabatke netted 14. Eagan next plays Wayzata on Tuesday.

Boys’ Hockey

In a rematch of last year’s state tournament semifinal, the Eagan boys’ hockey team again fell victim to Eden Prairie with a final score of 2-1. Eden Prairie’s John Sullivan scored what would turn out to be the game-winner for the defending state champs with 2 seconds left in the second period.

Sophomore goaltender Derrick LaCombe frustrated a potent Wildcat’s offense all night long making 38 saves for the Eagles.

Girls’ Hockey

The Lady Wildcats skated to a 2-2 tie against Burnsville on Saturday. The Eagan girls’ hockey team is now 5-0-2 on the season, 1-0-1 in South Suburban Conference play. The Lady Wildcats will next face Prior Lake on Tuesday evening.
