Movies In Quarry Park: A Family-Focused Community Event

Families looking to enjoy quality entertainment with their children this summer need look no further than Quarry Park! Oak Hills Church of Eagan presents Movies in the Park – a community event that features free, family-friendly movies throughout the summer. Sponsored in part by Thrivent Financial’s Northern Dakota County Chapter, the program gives families an opportunity to watch kid-favorite movies every other Thursday evening in Quarry Park. The park is located at 3340 Coachman Road, Eagan, Minn.

The summer-long event kicked off with a great start on June 26 with 56 moviegoers out to watch “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs.” “Neighbors enjoyed popcorn, bottled water and watching a movie under the stars,” says Laurel Hardgrove, community development leader at Oak Hills. “Students from our Homework Help program were out and really enjoyed the neighborhood celebration.”

All community members are invited to join in the fun. Arrive early to meet new friends while playing pre-movie games beginning at 7:45 p.m., and style yourself with temporary tattoos. Movies will start at dusk. Families are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs to make the night more comfortable. Volunteers will be serving free popcorn and water to moviegoers.

Participating in community-focused events is very common for both Oak Hills and Thrivent, says Tony Ripley. Serving as the Thrivent chapter’s youth director, Ripley regularly attends Oak Hills in connection with his work as director of Young Life. “Movies in the Park is just one of the many fantastic ways that they engage and have a positive impact on our neighborhoods,” he says. “I'm grateful to be involved with the outward focus of both Thrivent and Oak Hills."

From young to old, all attendees enjoyed the first night’s events. Along with Hardgrove, they look forward to seeing their neighbors again in July and August. As Hardgrove says, “it's going be a great Movies in the Park summer!”
