Eagan, Burnsville MVTA Stations Site of Wi-Fi Demonstration Project
Other transit stations and buses will see the service if the 90-day demonstration period goes well.
The Minnesota Valley Transit Authority launched a 90-day Wi-Fi demonstration project at two transit stations and on five buses on Friday.
The Eagan Transit Station and the Burnsville Transit Station are now both equipped with a public Wi-Fi system as are the following buses: 4692, 4693, 4048, 4049 and 4946. Applicable buses have a Wi-Fi symbol near the passenger boarding door.
Passengers can access the Wi-Fi service on the network MVTA Public Wi-Fi and the password openMVTA. The terms and conditions for using the network are on the MVTA website.
“In the past six months, more and more riders have asked for this service,” said MVTA Board Chair and Eagan Councilmember Gary Hansen in a news release. "We look forward to rider feedback and to rolling this service out at additional stations and on additional buses.”
The following bus routes will have Wi-Fi access, according to MVTA: 436, 440, 445, 460, 464, 465, 470, 472, 476, 477, 480 and 484.
The public Wi-Fi service will be extended to other transit stations and buses if there is a demand for the service and the service operates well.
