Middle School Student Wins District 191 Spelling Bee

Metcalf Junior High student Paige Erickson finished in first place.

Two students from Metcalf Junior High in Burnsville took first and second in the the Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District 30th annual spelling bee last week, the district announced.

Eighth grade students Paige Erickson finished in first place and Luke Haddorff finished in second. A sixth grade student from Hidden Valley Elementary, Anh Lien, finished in third place. Erickson won the bee with the word "blithe."

The rest of the top ten finishers included (in alphabetical order): Olivia Brammer of Eagle Ridge Junior High; Bradley Bruha of Marion W. Savage Elementary; Thanhminh Dinh of Eagle Ridge Junior High; Harvey Duong of Nicollet Junior High; Ishmail Mohamed of Vista View Elementary, Jason Miller of St. John's School and Chance Persons of Sioux Trail Elementary.

Thirty students in fifth grade to eighth grade, who finished at the top of spelling bees at their school, participated in the district spelling bee.The bee consisted of 208 words in 12 rounds. 

At the beginning of the event Superintendent Joe Gothard presented each student with a medal, telling them that they all were champions.
