My son goes to Dakota Hills Middle School, District 196 in Eagan. On Saturday Sep. 22, we were preparing to go to his football game, when he realized he forgot his football pants in his locker. We quickly ran to school, hoping something was happening at the High School (which is attached to the middle school, so that we could gain access.

When we arrived, we were in luck, it was very busy. With my 11 and 7 year old boys in tow, we quickly hurried inside, and found at the front entrance, a school district employee named Terry Seavert (spelling?) manning the entrance desk; he wasn't busy as he was clipping coupons. I politely explained the situation, and asked if he could please let us into the middle school. His response: "No, I've already let 3 kids in today, and I am not getting up to let another kid into the middle school". To say I was stunned is an understatement.

Again I explained my son forgot something in his locker in the middle school and he needed it, and asked if he would please help. Terry responded, "No, I am not doing that, it isn't in my job description". Terry promptly went back to clipping coupons. I questioned him by asking if he is serious, and what is he teaching kids with an attitude like that. He said they need to remember to bring things home on Friday night and not forget them. I explained that I already had that discussion with my 6th grader, and he gets the point, but what is he teaching MY kids now about kindness and compassion? He reiterated that it isn't his problem, kids need to remember things on Friday night and he isn't going to help.

At this point, some other parents heard what was going on and jumped in to ask him to help; this is when I started taking video. I left in frustration, and went around to the middle school to try and get in. It was closed, and we came back.

Upon our return, Terry was no where to be found, and one of the parents told me he was helping someone else. We wandered down the hall, and luckily found Terry. To our surprise, he was helping one of my kids friends moms find something. I again asked if Terry would help...but he ignored me. So we followed him, and I kept asking if he would help, but I never got a response. Once he was done helping our friends mom, we kept following Terry and asking if he would help. No response, but he led us to a door and unlocked it and we retrieved my sons football pants.

How disappointing that a person that works for the taxpayers would, for no reason, treat a kid/parent in this manner.
