Pilot Knob Elementary is a small school that thrives in its community. The class sizes are small so the faculty isMore more likely to know everyone by name. Principal Tom Benson takes pride in his school and makes a point to say goodbye to every student at the end of each day.

Also, a community garden, shed and science lab are new to the school this year. The garden will teach the students about various aspects of gardening and growing food. The students will even get to actually eat the food that's grown in their garden. The shed was donated to the school from Family Handyman, a national magazine.

The entire school will participate in projects in it's science lab pertaining to butterflies and Monarchs.

Pilot Knob Elementary tries to keep its students up-to-date with technology. The school has laptops, iPod touches and wireless connections. They also use smartboards.

Dakota Hills Middle School

Connected to Eagan High School, Dakota Hills Middle School features a "house system" for each grade. The amount ofMore students in a given grade is divided in two and each made a house. The "house system" allows for students to get more one-on-one teaching and to make closer bonds with other students. 

An additional way the school brings students together is by their WEB program, which stands for "Where Everyone Belongs." Eighth grade WEB leaders help new sixth grade students with adjusting to middle school life. The program helps answer students' questions, as well as bring five elementaries together with Wildcat pride. Also, students throughout the year can link back up with their original WEB mentor if they need to.

Dakota Hills Middle School has a few unique features. The school boasts two lecture rooms, similar to ones you'd find in college, as well as five ensemble rooms/music suites, which are sound proof.

Deerwood Elementary

Deerwood Elementary, founded in 1982, is a two-level elementary school surrounded by trees. It emphasizes parentMore involvement in the school, and offers various clubs and programs for its students. One of its most popular programs is the Art Adventure Program, in which experts visit the children to discuss their professions. Deerwood Elementary is located next to Black Hills Middle School.
